Mommy Test

My friend emailed me this funny story today and I had to share it! Moms will get a kick out of this one.

I was out walking with my 4 year old son. He picked up something off the ground and started to put it in his mouth. I took the item away from him and I asked him not to do that.
"Why?" my son asked.

"Because it's been on the ground, and you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs" I replied. At this my son looked at me with total admiration and asked,
"Mommy, how do you know all this stuff?"
"Uh," I was thinking quickly."All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy."
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but he was evidently wondering about this new information.
"OH... I get it!" he beamed,
"So if you don't pass the test you have to be the Daddy."
"Exactly!" I replied with a big smile on my face.

Friday Ramblings (Vol. 2)

Man, Friday comes quick! This may be a harder goal than I thought.
What is it about March and birthdays? It kinda reminds me of October in the Scothern family, but in my case it's worse because almost every kid in my neighborhood was born in early March. I have 7 birthday party invitations on my fridge right now, and they are all this Saturday and next Saturday. The bad thing is, they are all staggered just right so that I can't use the excuse of being at someone else's party. It's soooo unfair if we go to one child's birthday and not another's, so we are all going to be tired (and caked-out) two Saturdays in a row. Boy, are my kids going to be cranky from all that mayhem and sugar! Whoooopppiiieeeee!
See what you have to look forward to Lydia and Mike, Trigg and Lori?
Oh well....should be fun for the kids anyway.
I am trying to have a positive attitude...( I have a tendency to complain too much. Sorry....shutting up now.)

Unlike last week, I am feeling a little down and really overwhelmed. Can you tell? There is still so much to do to have the house ready to sell and I am getting worn out. My sweet hubby and kids picked up on that vibe today, and while I was at Walmart (shopping for 7 birthday presents) they cleaned the main floor of the house. I am so impressed! And I mean CLEANED! I felt so grateful after I walked in the door, I got a little misty. Thank you, my wonderful sweet husband and boys. I love you so much. There is nothing more attractive than a man with a broom in his hands, unless he's the creepy janitor from Junior High. Oh, and Harry Potter doesn't count either.

So see you next week. I promise I will have pictures in my post, and I will throw in some sort of juicy gossip for good discussion. Join me won't you?

Kid "Monster" Creations

What if you took a child's scary drawing and had an adult "improve" it? What would it look like? Well, today you are in luck because I can show you EXACTLY what it would look like! Sean stumbled across these rendered interpretations today and I thought they were so darn cute, I had to share them.....Enjoy! (Click on the images to get the full effect).

Friday Ramblings

I am going to start posting SOMETHING every Friday....we shall see if I am successful. It's funny, because I feel like I always have to have a slew of marvelous pictures or some sort of earth-shaking news in order to post on my blog.
What I have realized is:
1) My blog is a feeble attempt at journaling.
2) Life isn't always exciting.
( You'd think I would read my blog title from time to time.)

So here I go....What's going on today, right now, at this moment? I feel so happy today, and I cannot explain it. Maybe all the eating healthy and exercising I am doing is having a cumulative effect, maybe I am bi-polar and I am having a manic day...who knows? All I know is, I feel great. I have also lost 12 pounds in the last 4 weeks, so I am pretty happy about that, too.

Brennan cut two teeth this week (his first) and turns 9 months old today! Cute little bugger! I have been really bad about taking pictures of him lately, so now I have no excuse to snap some photos. Bad Mommy! Bad Mommy!!!
Connor is doing great in school and is realizing the wonderful world of reading...not big words, but sounding out C-A-T and D-O-G and understanding the words. We are a little behind in reading, but ahead in math. He makes the most amazing "experiments". I say "experiments" because he loves to understand how things work and tries to re-create them using common household things. (I don't have a straight hanger in the house, or any cooking utensils left in the drawer.) I can practically hear the gears turning in his head. Future rocket scientist? Maybe. He still wants to be a Vet. So, maybe he will make rocket-propelled pets. The sky is the limit.
Gavin is the sweetest big brother to Brennan. He will crawl in his crib in the morning on the weekends and entertain him so that I can get an extra 30 minutes of sleep. He is so affectionate and gentle, too. Connor is my do-er (which is extremely helpful when I need a fresh diaper), but Gavin is my lover. I have a feeling Brennan and Gavin will have a special bond. I am lucky to hear "Mom, I love you" at least 20 times a day and it is sincere every time he says it. I will sure miss that when he is a teenager.

The floor plans for our house in Mountain Green are being revised again. We are trying to get the most for our money, and building totally custom is so much more labor intensive than anything we have done before. Just moving an exterior wall 6 inches can save you hundreds of dollars, so we are going over our plan again and again to make sure it is what we want. It is darn near impossible (and expensive) to go back and make changes later. Once we have the final floor plan completed, I will post it. Our house here is going up for sale on March 1st. (Please let it sell quickly!) I don't know how I am going to keep it "show ready" clean, but I am looking forward to being over this hurdle.

Hello? Is anyone still awake? I am sorry this is so dry. Shopping lists are more exciting than this. Like I said...ramblings. They all can't be gems.

Until next Friday....
