My Baby Is Growing Up

For all of you who have kids (human or fur-covered), I am sure you can relate to the first haircut you ever give your baby. Suddenly they aren't as pudgy, or curly, or baby-looking. They look like a much bigger boy/girl. My baby boy Beckett went to the groomers and got a trim today, and I am sad that his baby fur around his face is gone. He suddenly looks all grown up. I am glad he can actually SEE something in front of him now, but I miss the scrappy Mohawk between his eyes. They grow up so fast.

And here's an interesting side-note....
I have a sort of embarrassing question. What is "cleaning the anal glands" ?! Sounds painful. Poor puppy got a bum shave, so that the other dogs won't point and laugh at the dingle-berries.

Cleaning the old anal glands means they kind of squeeze him as they are bathing him so that anything left in the intestines comes out....some puppies have a hard time getting everything out, so this helps keep them regular (you could call it). At least that is what we were told :).

He looks cute. We do want our pups to meet him soon :)

Got this off the internet:

Dog anal glands are two small glands located on either side of your dog's rectal opening. Each gland holds a small amount of a noxious smelling liquid brown substance that your pet uses as something of a doggie calling card.

Many dogs never seem to have a problem with their anal glands, but the opportunity for infection to take hold is always there. When the anal glands are not sufficiently expressed, bacteria is given the chance to build up, and this can lead to numerous problems.
